Atlanta Cancer Care Foundation Partners with Macy's 11th Annual "Shop For A Cause" Program

For the 4th year, Macy’s is partnering with Atlanta Cancer Care Foundation and inviting customers to participate in Macy’s 11th annual national “Shop For A Cause” charity shopping event, taking place Friday, Aug. 26 through Sunday, Aug. 28, 2016. Customers can begin purchasing shopping passes from Atlanta Cancer Care Foundation now. Macy’s “Shop For A Cause” is a unique shopping event dedicated to supporting local nonprofit organizations’ fundraising efforts. Formerly a one-day initiative, this year Macy’s has extended “Shop For A Cause” to a weekend-long event. Since 2006, the program has helped raise tens of millions of dollars for charities throughout the country, and more than 5,000 charities signed up to participate last year.

“At Macy’s, we believe in supporting the communities where our customers and associates live and work,” said Holly Thomas, Macy’s group vice president of cause marketing. “That is why we are so proud of Shop For A Cause, which has helped raise tens of millions of dollars for charitable organizations since 2006. With this year’s extension to a weekend-long event, we’re offering even more opportunity to support local and national causes, and thanking our customers with special savings at Macy’s.”

Macy’s has provided Atlanta Cancer Care Foundation with shopping passes to sell for $5 each, and the organization will keep 100% of the proceeds for every shopping pass that it sells. By purchasing a shopping pass from Atlanta Cancer Care Foundation, customers support cancer patients throughout metro-Atlanta who are financially challenged and they can enjoy spectacular discounts at Macy’s stores all weekend long from Friday, Aug. 26 through Sunday, Aug. 28, 2016

Join ACCF for a Special Screening of the "Be Here Now" film on April 7th

Be Here Now” (The Andy Whitfield Story), is the award winning new film about a family living with cancer and using a diagnosis to live more consciously.  An inspiring love story between television superstar, Andy Whitfield, and his charismatic wife, Vashti, who together take on the most heroic role he’s ever had to play.  As though life is imitating art, actor and sex symbol, Andy Whitfield, had just achieved his dream of becoming a star as the tragic-hero of the hit series, “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” when he is faced with his biggest personal challenge.  Before now, Andy and his wife combined their will-power to make their dreams become reality, including Andy’s transformation from an engineer into a successful actor.  Now, they set their sights on beating cancer, by making a promise confirmed in matching ‘Be Here Now’ tattoos, to embrace life rather than live in fear.   They bravely allowed Academy® Award Nominated filmmaker, Lilibet Foster, to follow their dramatic and intimate roller coaster, in the hopes that by sharing their journey, they may help inspire others with challenges and dreams.  Shot in a verite style in Australia, New Zealand, India and the US, it is their powerful determination, remarkable openness, irrepressible humor and love that makes the film an intimate and inspiring life-lesson about having the courage to face challenges and take advantage of every day – regardless of the outcome.  It also reveals how close, yet so far, we are from finding a cure for this disease, which touches all of our lives.  In celebration of World Health Day and in anticipation of the film's national theatrical release, Atlanta Cancer Care Foundation will be helping host a special screening on April 7th at the Landmark Midtown Art Cinema.  You can view the trailer HERE.  Audiences are saying that seeing this film encourages them, through Andy's example, to live fully and presently, as well as heightens their awareness of the need to find cures for cancer and galvanizes them to do something about it.  If you would like to attend, tickets must be purchased online (none will be sold at the theater): www.tugg.com/events/92843

Thank You, It's the Journey, Inc. for Your Generous Support!

ACCF was honored to receive a $16,000 grant from It’s the Journey, Inc. (www.itsthejourney.org) at their Grantee Reception this week.  Their generous donation will help us serve breast cancer patients in need of financial support.

At the Reception, ACCF's delegation received a truly wonderful surprise:  an additional special grant of $10,000, designated by Team “Breasta Fiesta” (www.breastafiesta.com) - the largest team to participate in the 2015 2-Day (with an astounding 69 members!).  The Team selected ACCF to honor the memory of Dr. Thomas Seay, who treated several of the Team’s survivors.

Thank you, It’s the Journey, Inc. and Team Breasta Fiesta for your commitment to supporting those battling breast cancer!

In Memoriam, Dr. Thomas Seay

The Atlanta Cancer Care Foundation is saddened to share news of Dr. Thomas Seay’s sudden passing on December 26, 2015.  Dr. Seay was President and Managing Partner of Atlanta Cancer Care, having been a member of the Atlanta Cancer Care family since 1994.  He also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Georgia Center for Oncology Research and Education, and was a strong advocate for efforts to increase the availability of clinical trials to patients throughout the state.

During his more than 25 years of practice, Dr. Seay provided care and comfort to countless patients.  His sense of compassion didn’t stop with his patients, however; Dr. Seay was a staunch supporter of the Atlanta Cancer Care Foundation.

Everyone at Atlanta Cancer Care Foundation extends our deepest condolences to Dr. Seay’s family, friends and colleagues.

A Taste of Hope raises more than $27,000 for local cancer patients!
